Group Manager – Engineering Business Manager, Vaughan, ON
19 years with Layfield

Q: What are the number of years you have worked with Layfield?

I joined the Layfield Vaughan office on April 2005. Over the past 19 years at Layfield I have been involved customer service, business development and engineering business management.

Q: Can you tell us about your current role and responsibilities?

I am the Engineering Business Manager – Group Manager and responsible for leading the EBM Team across Canada and the US. My team is part of the technical resource group and work closely with the sales and marketing to identify new markets and drive demand through engineers and consultants for Layfield’s specifiable geosynthetic products.

Q: What do you like about our company culture?

I am proud to be part of a company who is well respected across the geosynthetic industry as a vertically integrated manufacturer, distributor, and installer.  I like that Layfield is a team environment, promoting growth from within and fostering continuous improvement and innovation to protect.

Q: What do you love most about working in the geosynthetics industry?

I love sustainability, innovation and problem solving.  The geosynthetic industry is continuously evolving with new products and technology improvements to help solve engineering challenges.  There is always something new on the horizon in geosynthetics.

Q: Can you share a significant achievement or project you’ve worked on recently?

In 2023 Layfield helped solve a major shoreline erosion and bank stabilization challenge in Georgina Ontario located along the shoreline of Lake Simcoe.  The embankment was severely eroded, had failed and was at risk of future failure. The Layfield solution included a 9m tall geosynthetic reinforced Geoweb vegetated wall system.  Layfield was involved in the project from conceptual design to installation.  The project was a great success by stabilizing the embankment, preventing erosion while maintaining a vegetated veneer. The project turned out to be one of the largest projects on Lake Simcoe during 2023.

Q: What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work that people may not know about?

I am a busy father of 2 children actively involved in dance and hockey.  During summer months I enjoy spending time on the water with my family staying active with water sports and recreational boating.  During winter months I enjoy finding the mountains and hitting the slopes on my snowboard.
