Randy Noble

Construction Operations Manager, San Diego
5 Years with Layfield

Q. Can you describe your current position at Layfield and the tasks you handle, along with how many years you’ve been with the company?

I work as the Construction Operations Manager at Layfield in the San Diego facility. In my role, I oversee both the Field Staff and the Project Management Team. My responsibilities include participating in various meetings such as staff, safety, operations, and bid reviews. I ensure proper staffing levels in the field, monitor budget performance, and maintain regular communication with on-site staff. Additionally, I am responsible for job site safety, scheduling, quality assurance, training initiatives, and handle human resources matters as they arise. In November, it will be my 5th year with the company.

Q. Could you discuss a recent accomplishment or contribution you’ve made at Layfield that you’re particularly proud of?

In a partnership with Orion Construction, we recently won the American Public Works Association Environmental Award for the Las Pulgas Landfill Winterization project. This project was challenging as it was an emergency job that demanded immediate attention. The success was a result of a concerted effort from departments across the company including Sales, Estimating, Supply Chain, and Operations. Despite long hours and adverse weather conditions, our field team demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill.

Q. What do you enjoy most about the company culture and working environment at Layfield?

What I find most rewarding about Layfield’s culture and working environment is its people. The team here is not only highly skilled but also collaborative and supportive. Even when faced with challenges, we come together to find effective solutions.

Q. What advice would you give to someone considering a career in our industry?

For anyone considering a career in our industry, I would emphasize the importance of adaptability and a positive attitude. The environmental liner industry is dynamic and can present unique challenges. Being adaptable allows you to navigate these challenges effectively, while maintaining a positive outlook enables you to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Q. What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time doing yard work, listening to music, and spending time with my grandchildren.
